What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Before You Arrive
Our team sends your new patient forms ahead of time so you can complete them at home rather than in the waiting room. We also verify your insurance benefits in advance, so we can tell you what your plan covers before you sit down.
Arrival
Arrive about ten minutes early. You will be greeted by a person at our front desk, not a sliding window, and shown back close to your scheduled time. Our schedule is built with realistic appointment lengths, so we run close to on time.
Digital X-Rays
We take a complete set of digital x-rays, which produce clear images in seconds with considerably less radiation than traditional film. They appear on the screen in your room immediately.
Comprehensive Examination
Dr. Smith examines each tooth and existing restoration, evaluates your gum and bone health, checks your bite and performs an oral cancer screening. She shows you what she is looking at on the screen rather than describing it from memory.
Your Cleaning
In most cases, your cleaning is completed the same day by one of our hygienists. If your gum health indicates you need periodontal treatment instead of a routine cleaning, Dr. Smith will explain why and what that involves before anything is scheduled.
Your Treatment Plan and Estimate
If treatment is needed, you leave with a written plan showing each recommended procedure, what your insurance or membership plan brings it down to and what you would owe. You approve it before anything is booked, and nobody follows up to pressure you.
