Consultation and Smile Design

Tooth Preparation
A thin layer of enamel, roughly 0.5 millimeters, is removed from the front surface of each tooth receiving a veneer. This is permanent and cannot be undone, which is why the consultation precedes it. The teeth are numbed so the preparation is comfortable.
Impressions and Shade Selection
An impression or scan is taken of the prepared teeth and sent to the dental laboratory with detailed shade and shape specifications. Dr. Smith selects a shade in natural light so the laboratory fabricates veneers that look natural in ordinary conditions rather than only under clinical lighting.
Temporary Veneers
Custom temporaries are placed over the prepared teeth while the permanent veneers are being made. These protect the teeth and give you a functional preview of the final shape and shade for one to two weeks.
Try in and Approval
The finished veneers arrive from the laboratory and are tried in before bonding. You and Dr. Smith assess the shade, shape and fit. Any adjustments needed are communicated to the laboratory before permanent bonding.
