Dr. Annie Smith treats children alongside their parents, which means one office and one familiar face rather than being handed off to a stranger. Because she is the sole provider here, the dentist who saw your child at six is the same dentist watching those molars come in at twelve, and she knows their history without reading it off a chart. Any treatment she completes for your child, from a sealant to a filling, is backed by our one-year warranty.

What Makes an Appointment Actually Kid-Friendly
The phrase gets used loosely, so here is what it means in practice at our office.
- Tell, show, do. Every instrument is named, demonstrated on a finger or a hand first, then used. Surprises are what create fear, not procedures.
- Short first visits. A child's first appointment may be nothing more than sitting in the chair, a count of the teeth and a polish. That is a win, not an incomplete visit.
- The chair stops when they ask. Children are told they can raise a hand at any point and we will stop. Then we actually stop, which is the part that builds trust.
- Parents stay with younger children. You are welcome in the room, and for anxious or very young children, we would rather you were there.
- Honest language. We do not tell children something will not be felt when it will, because that costs their trust for every visit afterward.
- English or Spanish. Dr. Smith and our team are bilingual, so both parent and child can follow the whole conversation.
- No pressure on parents either. If your child is not ready today, we reschedule rather than push through it.
Helping an Anxious Child Before You Arrive
What happens at home in the days before an appointment often matters more than anything we do in the chair. A few things that reliably help.
Book a morning slot if you can, since children cope far better before a full day of school has worn them down. Talk about the visit in plain, neutral terms and keep the vocabulary calm: teeth being counted and cleaned, rather than words like pain, needle, drill or hurt, even in reassurance. Children pick up the emotional charge on those words long before they understand them.
If you are nervous about dental visits yourself, that is worth knowing about. Children read a parent's tension quickly, so it can help to have the less anxious parent bring them, or simply to mention it to us so we take extra care with how we frame things. Avoid promising that nothing will happen, since that is a promise nobody can keep, and avoid offering a large reward in advance, which signals to a child that something worth being bribed for is coming. Tell us when you book if your child has had a difficult experience elsewhere. We will plan the appointment differently from the start.
How Your Child's First Visit Unfolds
The goal of a first appointment is a child who is willing to come back. Treatment matters less than that.
Meeting before sitting
Your child meets Dr. Smith and the team before anything happens, standing up, in ordinary conversation.
A tour of the chair
They sit in it, ride it up and down, and see the light and the little mirror. For many young children this is the whole appointment on day one.
Counting teeth
A gentle look with a mirror while we count out loud. It sounds trivial and it is remarkably effective at turning an examination into a game.
A polish rather than a scale
For young children the cleaning is a soft polish with flavored paste, usually described as tickling the teeth.
Fluoride where appropriate
Painted on quickly, flavored, no rinsing needed.
X-rays only when needed
Not automatic and not at every visit. Digital images use very little radiation and are taken only when Dr. Smith needs to see between teeth or check developing roots.
Dr. Smith's examination
Teeth, bite, jaw development and soft tissue are checked, with your child shown what is happening on the screen if they are old enough to be interested.
Talking to you, not around you
Dr. Smith explains what she found, what she is watching and what, if anything, needs treatment, in English or Spanish, with a written estimate before anything is scheduled.
Treatments We Provide for Children
Most of what children need is preventive, and most of the rest can be handled here without a referral.
- Cleanings and exams, every six months, with gum health and jaw development tracked as they grow.
- Dental sealants, applied to permanent molars to close the deep grooves where the majority of childhood cavities begin.
- Fluoride treatment, to strengthen enamel and reverse very early decay before it needs a filling.
- Tooth colored fillings, placed when decay is found, matched to the tooth so nothing looks obviously repaired.
- Extractions, including stubborn baby teeth that will not release and teeth too damaged to save.
- Dental emergencies, covering knocked out or broken teeth, sports injuries and sudden pain. Call as early in the day as you can, and weekend emergency appointments are available on request.
- Mouthguards for sport, which are far cheaper than repairing a front tooth.
Cost and coverage: Our membership plan includes a Child Essential tier at $33 a month for children twelve and under, covering two cleanings, two exams, routine x-rays and a $25 rollover reward toward future treatment, plus 20% off other services. Additional children are $32 a month. Most dental insurance plans cover children's preventive care at or near 100%, and our team verifies benefits before your visit so you know your cost in advance.

Family appointments can often be booked back to back, so a single trip covers everyone instead of three separate afternoons. New patients start at $119 for a cleaning, digital x-rays and a full exam with Dr. Smith. Children twelve and under are covered from $33 a month on our membership plan, veterans receive 10% off, and everything we place is guaranteed for a year.
